Do shingles really last 25 years?
Not in Quebec. A shingle sold as « 25-year » lasts 15 to 17 years here. That warranty was written for a climate that is not ours.
Montreal goes through about a hundred freeze-thaw cycles a year. Each cycle, water seeps into the micro-cracks in the shingle, freezes, expands and widens the crack a little more. Here is what happens next, in order.
- The granules come looseYou find them in your gutters. The shingle loses its UV protection.
- The shingle dries out and hardensIt turns brittle, curls at the corners, stops sealing.
- The wind tears them offOne at first, then three, then a whole row after a good gust.

Do we tear off the old shingles?
Yes. Always. Laying metal over old shingles costs less up front, but it hides the decking. Nobody knows whether the wood underneath is sound, and moisture stays trapped between the two layers.
We strip everything, inspect the decking, replace damaged sheets, then install. That is also what lets us give you a price that holds.
Steel does not rot, does not crack and does not absorb water. When a metal roof leaks after two years, the cause is elsewhere, and it is almost always the same one.

Is a metal roof noisy when it rains?

How long does metal roof installation take?
Most residential metal roof installations take 3 to 5 business days. We remove the old roof and install the new one in the same visit.
Does a metal roof rust?

Can I install a metal roof over my existing shingles?
In some cases yes, but we always recommend full removal to inspect the structure underneath. This is included in our service.
